Things to know about Welding and Fabrication

Welding and fabrication have been around for quite some time now. The industrial revolution showed a boom in welding and fabrication use as factories and industries needed it the most. Welding is not something a newbie can just start doing as it can be lethal if you don’t have a professional do it for you. As the use of welding and fabrication evolved, people learned ways to do it more safely and conservatively.

Here are a few things that you need to know before you start welding and fabricating:

  • Safety: Safety needs to be your main priority, as you would be working with extremely heated metal items which if you are not careful can cause life-threatening injuries or in the worst case can lead to death. So, you need to make sure you have all your safety gadgets and gears ready to use before you start working.

  • 2.Voltage: Knowing your voltage is vital information especially when you are not a professional and trying to do it at home. The two most vital voltages to use are 110v and 230v. Higher voltage is best for penetrating thicker objects whereas lower voltage is best for penetrating the thinner objects. So, if you are a beginner, it is highly recommended that you use a dual voltage welder which has both voltages in it.

  • Process: Welding process is something you need to learn about before you get your hands on the welding work. The major types of welding processes are TIG, MIG and Stick flux-cored processes. Some of these processes can be suitable for beginners whereas some can be very useful for professionals. For example, MIG and flux-cored are underwire welding. They are all different from each other. The easiest processes are MIG and flux-cored whereas TIG is a little technical as it is mostly used in automotive and architectural welding work. To sum it up a welder should be familiar with these processes in order to get the work done in the most efficient way.

Talking about welding and fabrication there is a lot of information that you need to be thorough with before stepping into the field and start doing the work. The above-mentioned pieces of information are the basic things that a beginner needs to know so that he/she can improve efficiency and deliver quality work. Lastly, the welder should learn how to keep his work station clean along with well-maintained tools and equipment.
